impatiently waiting

I have several things that I hope will arrive before I leave on my big walk. No one item is absolutely necessary for the walk, but I'd love for all the items to arrive before 28 September. And those items are:

1. Teespring tee shirts
2. Gillette armpit deodorant (not recommended by expert hikers*)
3. Leukotape (GMarket says it has yet to ship, dammit)

I already have a full stick of Gillette in my backpack. I can live without my Teespring tees, but I'd rather have one to hike with because it answers many of the standard questions that one gets while on the path. As for the Leukotape... I still believe in not popping one's blisters, so I can definitely live without Leukotape, which is supposed to be a better version of moleskin: many hikers pop their blisters, then apply either moleskin or Leukotape to the popped area to act as a "second skin." Still strikes me as inviting infection and abrasion.

So even though I'm impatiently waiting for these final three shipments to arrive, I'm not too fussed about them—not really. I can walk without them.

*The walking that I'm going to be doing doesn't really qualify as true hiking to me because it's mostly on flat, smooth, asphalted or rubber-covered ground. I've talked about the flatness of the terrain before: I'd say 90-95% of the hike is flat, with just a handful of scarily steep, hilly stretches that don't go on for more than—in one case—five kilometers. Anyway, since my route takes me through towns, i.e., through civilization, I think I owe it to the locals not to stink like a Los Angeles bum when I have it in my power to do something about body odor.

  1. I respectfully disagree that this trek is not a hike. A stroll through the park is walking. Any walk that goes on for hours, days, and weeks is a marathon hike in my opinion. Plus, you are going to be camping out as well. Definitely a hike!
